A Celebration of Lela’s Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday February 23, 2019 at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL. Burial will follow next to her husband in Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, IL.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Oblong Children’s Christian Home or the Oblong Oil Field Museum. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.
Lela L. McCullough, 93, Oblong, IL formerly of Sun City West, AZ and Crete, IL passed away on Tuesday February 19, 2019 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Newburgh, IN.
She was born in Bellair, IL on June 6, 1925 and was the daughter of Elza and Nora (Geffs) Wiman. On March 17, 1945 she married John Robert “J. R.” McCullough. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2010.
Lela and her husband J.R. owned Crete Oil Company in Crete, IL for many years. She was a very active member of the Crete Methodist Church, Crete, IL for many years. Lela was a member of the Sun City West, AZ Bridge Club as well as an active volunteer at the Del Webb Sun City West Hospital. She loved to play bridge two or three times a week but most of her time was spent keeping tabs of what J.R. was doing.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law John and Lynda McCullough, Oblong, IL; daughter and son-in-law Gayle and John Fazzini, Mokena, IL; four grandsons Jeffrey and Alison Meek, Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Douglas and Elizabeth Meek, Albuquerque, N.M, James Nicholas McCullough, Robinson, IL and Austin McCullough, Robinson, IL; step-grandson Josh York, Robinson, IL; seven great-grandchildren Emily, Sara, Hannah, Katherine, Ryan, Margaret and Jackson.
Preceding Lela in death were her parents; husband; two sons James W. “Jimbo” McCullough and Dr. Robert McCullough as well a brother Carl Wiman.
